Hypnotherapy for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
IBS can take over your life in ways that are hard to explain to people who have not experienced it. Always knowing where the nearest toilet is. Planning journeys around toilet stops. Saying no to things you would love to do. Watching your world quietly get smaller. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone, and there is a reason conventional treatments often fall short. Because IBS is not just a physical condition. The gut and the brain are in constant two-way communication, and for many people, the real driver of IBS symptoms lives in the subconscious mind. That is exactly where my approach works.
Effective, evidence-based support for IBS in Marlow, Caversham and Reading.
Clinically Endorsed and Research-Backed
Hypnotherapy for IBS is not an alternative therapy on the fringes. NICE, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, which sets clinical guidelines for the NHS, specifically recommends hypnotherapy for IBS sufferers who have not found relief through conventional treatment. Research led by Professor Peter Whorwell at the University of Manchester found that 76% of IBS patients treated with hypnotherapy achieved a clinically significant reduction in symptoms. Improvements were seen not just in digestive symptoms, but in anxiety, mood and overall quality of life.
How hypnotherapy for IBS Works
IBS rarely arrives out of nowhere. In most cases it can be traced back to a period of stress, a significant life event, or an emotionally difficult time. The subconscious mind, which governs your automatic bodily functions including digestion, can become locked into a stress response long after the original trigger has passed. It keeps producing symptoms that were once a response to something real, even when that something is long gone. In my sessions with you, we will explore when the pattern began, what your subconscious learned at that time, and what it believes it is achieving by maintaining it. Using Cognitive Hypnotherapy and NLP, those beliefs can be updated. The pattern can change.
What to Expect from IBS Hypnotherapy Sessions
Each session is relaxed, conversational and tailored entirely to you. I will take a full history to build a picture of when and why the IBS began, and we will work across the past (where the pattern was established), the present (how it shows up now) and the future (those anticipated situations that cause dread before they have even happened). I will also give you a personalised hypnotherapy recording to listen to at home, designed specifically to shift the mind's beliefs about how your digestive system feels and responds.
